the record

Not a single fatal accident on a Jet2 flight

Jet2 has flown holiday flights since February 2003 and no Jet2 flight has ever had a fatal accident. It flies Boeing 737-800s and newer Airbus A321neos from 14 UK bases, and carried about 20.8 million passengers in the year to March 2026.

Jet2.com is the same company as Channel Express, a cargo and charter airline from Bournemouth, renamed in 2006. In January 1999, before the Jet2 brand existed, a Channel Express cargo plane carrying newspapers lost control on its approach to Guernsey and both pilots lost their lives. The UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch found it had been loaded outside its balance limits, and recommended changes to how cargo loading is checked. It is the only fatal accident in the company's history that we found, and it was not a Jet2 passenger flight.

Jet2 is not an IATA member. It is overseen by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, and every serious incident is investigated independently by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

Has Jet2 ever crashed?

No Jet2 flight has ever had a fatal accident. Before the Jet2 brand began, the same company flew cargo as Channel Express, and one of its cargo planes crashed near Guernsey in 1999 with two pilots on board. This counts accidents as investigators define them; it leaves out passengers taken ill on board, which are not accidents.
